Who we are

About the FOW CoE

In an effort to boost the UK’s floating offshore wind industry, ORE Catapult established the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence (FOW CoE) to develop an internationally recognised initiative to reduce the cost of energy from floating wind. The centre will accelerate the build-out of floating farms, create opportunities for the UK supply chain, and drive innovations in manufacturing, installation and Operations & Maintenance (O&M). The CoE is a collaborative programme with industry, academic and other stakeholder partners.

The floating wind sector is a monumental opportunity to be grasped, and the FOW CoE is delivering valuable work in the true spirit of collaboration, helping to ensure successful floating wind projects are developed both in the UK and around the world.

Opportunities and challenges of floating offshore wind

Written by Ralph Torr, Head of Floating Wind at ORE Catapult, this blog takes a deep dive into the many opportunities and challenges that the floating offshore wind sector is experiencing.

“As industry co-chair of the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence, I have seen the programme go from strength to strength, with it now delivering a wide range of valuable projects across many technical and supply chain focus areas. The Centre of Excellence is having a tangible impact on the industry – encouraging collaboration, supporting technology development, addressing barriers to supply chain growth and mapping the journey towards the commercialisation of floating wind.”
